Softer, Softest…

I was so excited to launch our blog but because we are in the middle of moving I’ve been neglecting updates. Consequently, I haven’t been doing my usual internet browsing so I thought I’d just post some Meat Market Vintage image candy for you all :] Above are just a handful of items that are up for sale this week, I picked a few of my favorites. I love love love the way these dresses look together, the delicate colors and grrrlie textures compliment each other so nicely…spring has officially sprung so I had to do a pastel shout-out.

Well, these empty cardboard boxes aren’t going to pack themselves so I better get to it. The next few weeks will be chaotic with the move, but I’ll try my best to keep updating! Oh yeah, we have a ton of items ending tonight, be sure to check them out before the auctions end!

A Rainy Day In Tempe, A Sunny Day In Glasgow

Last week Ben & I drove down to Tucson to see one of my best friends perform with her band, A Sunny Day In Glasgow. They managed to draw quite a crowd on a humble Monday night. They also managed to fit all 6 of themselves on the tiny art gallery’s stage, I was very impressed! Even more impressive was their show, with layered vocal melodies and a drummer who kept a steady driving beat under a wall of dreamy pop-rock sounds. The crowd was rather entertaining too, lots of group clapping and questionable dance moves throughout the night…hey, at least they were having fun. Oh and best of all, the two lovely ladies of the band can usually be found jamming out on stage in cute lil’ vintage outfits, purr! I have a feeling this band is going to be big, so be sure to catch them on the remainder of their US & European tour. Unfortunately we only had a few hours with our friend Jen, as ASDIG were headed straight to Austin’s SXSW after the Tucson performance, but it was still so great to see her. Two of my best friends moved away to opposite sides of the country within like 3 weeks of each other, leaving me rather sad and lonely! Why did you gals have to do that??? Check out a video of A Sunny Day In Glasgow:

A La French Pastry

vintage 1980s sequined bow sweater

Sometimes it’s difficult to incorporate sequined items into an outfit without feeling like your unforgettable elementary school teacher. This 1980s sweater, however, wows me with its custard cream color. The designers made a smart choice by sticking with the cream motif for the sequined accent and amazing asymmetric bow. We contrasted the outfit with all black accessories (I think I’ve made it loud and clear that black & white / black & cream are one of my favorite color combinations). She looks just like a present!

The Gold Standard

vintage 1960s tuxedo dress

Ughhh, sometimes dresses are so perfect it makes me sick. Strange, I know, but seriously what is not to love about this 1960s design? A sparkling gold bodice keeps things classy while the gender-bending collar, cuffs & velveteen ascot boldly state that your style is 100% bad ass. Hahah, did I really just say that? I think you get my point…

unapologetic 1980s dress

(originally posted 12/05/09 on chictopia.com/meatmarketvintage)

vintage 1980s silk dress

i just got back from my city’s local art festival. i couldn’t help but think of this dress after perusing through all of the abstract wall hangings in every color of the rainbow, multi colored blown glass ornaments, iridescent hammered metal, etc…so i decided i had to come home and blog about an even better piece of abstract art: this 1980s vintage dress! not only is the cut of the dress soooo comfy but it’s also 100% silk. i absolutely love girls that can pull off loud, shapeless, avant garde dresses like these because it’s such a big “F-U” to whatever the latest trend is, am i right?
